TLDR: today we launched MondoTrends, and the fastest way to understand it is this - it’s a better CrowdTangle, built for how sports, media and creator brands actually work in 2026
If you never used CrowdTangle, here’s what you missed. Before Meta shut it down in 2024, it was the first tab every social and content person opened in the morning. Search every post in your market. Sort by what’s overperforming. Know in thirty seconds what’s moving, who’s having a moment, and what format is suddenly working - across the whole market, not just your own channels. Then walk into the content meeting with signal instead of vibes
When it died, nothing replaced it. I know because I spent two years asking. Every team, league, agency, and publisher I talked to had built the same workaround: a Slack channel full of screenshots, a spreadsheet someone updates when they remember, an intern assembling competitive decks by hand. The most sophisticated content operations in sports and entertainment have been making daily programming decisions with less market visibility than they had eight years ago.
So we rebuilt it. And then we built the parts CrowdTangle never had, because the market it was built for doesn’t exist anymore. Here’s the walkthrough.
Search the whole market, sorted by what’s overperforming
The foundation of MondoTrends is cross-platform post search across the entire market - every post, from every account we track, across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and X. Filter by platform, keyword, account, format, or performance. This was the core CrowdTangle workflow, and it’s back.
But the sort that matters isn’t raw engagement. It’s overperformance - how a post did relative to what that account normally does. Raw numbers just tell you big accounts are big. A post from a mid-size account doing 8x its baseline is a far more important signal than a mega-account doing its usual numbers, because overperformance is where you find the content ideas that actually travel. That’s the difference between “the NFL got 2 million likes again” and “this volleyball club’s locker room walkout video just did 12x their average - what did they do and can we do our version of it this week?”
The value in plain terms: your best content ideas are already live somewhere in your market, performing right now. MondoTrends is how you find them while they’re still fresh enough to act on, instead of three weeks later in someone’s recap deck.
Breakdowns by format and video length
This is the one CrowdTangle never had, and honestly it’s the question I get asked more than any other: what length should our videos be?
MondoTrends breaks down performance by format, video length, and platform - across your channels and everyone else’s. So instead of guessing, you can see it: in your market, are 30-second clips or 90-second cuts holding attention on Reels right now? Is carousel content quietly outperforming video for a certain kind of story? Are the accounts growing fastest leaning into raw handheld footage or polished brand-produced content?
These answers change constantly, they’re different by platform, and they’re different by category - what works for an NFL team is not what works for a podcast or a women’s volleyball league. The only way to answer “what should we make” credibly is to measure what’s earning attention in your specific market, this month.
The value in plain terms: format decisions are where content teams burn the most time arguing and the most budget guessing. Every edit, every cutdown, every “should we make a longer version” debate gets settled with market data instead of opinions. You stop producing lengths and formats the algorithm has already moved past.
Trends that find you before your competitive set does
CrowdTangle made you hunt. MondoTrends hunts for you.
Mondo Intelligence - the AI layer under the product - continuously scans the market and surfaces emerging themes, formats, and storylines as they start taking off, before they show up in anyone’s competitive set. Not “here’s what went viral last week,” which every recap tool can tell you, but “this content pattern is accelerating across multiple accounts right now.”
Paired with that is audience momentum tracking: which properties, personalities, and stories are gaining or losing attention over time. Trends tell you what’s moving today. Momentum tells you who’s rising over weeks and months - the athlete whose personal channel is quietly becoming a top driver in your league, the show format gaining ground in your category, the competitor whose numbers are softening.
The value in plain terms: there’s a window on every trend where being early is worth 10x being on time. The team that catches a rising format in week one gets the engagement lift and looks native to it. The team that catches it in week four looks like a brand chasing a meme. MondoTrends exists to put you in the first group. And on the momentum side, it means you spot the rising athlete or creator while a partnership with them is still underpriced.
Leaderboards, benchmarks, and knowing where you actually stand
Every team, league, publisher, and creator brand asks the same question: how are we actually doing? Not in absolute numbers - relative to the market we compete in.
MondoTrends ships leaderboards and rankings for teams, leagues, athletes, creators, publishers, shows, and content categories, plus competitive benchmarking that puts your performance in context. Matt Wickline at LOVB described the value better than I can: a clear cross-platform view of how they stack up against competitors, and how their athletes stack up against each other. That second part matters more than people realize - inside a league or a roster, knowing which athletes are driving attention shapes content strategy, media training, and commercial priorities.
The value in plain terms: “we got 4 million engagements this month” means nothing without context. “We’re third in our league, up from sixth, and growing faster than everyone above us” is a sentence you can take to your owner, your board, or your sponsor. Benchmarks turn your numbers into a position, and positions are what leadership and partners actually respond to.
It’s not just about the accounts we discover though - track any public account you want…we’ll set up custom lists for tracking content creators or influencers, athletes, brands, whatever you want.
The commercial layer: attention as a pricing signal
This is the biggest departure from CrowdTangle, and it’s where MondoTrends stops being a content tool and becomes a business tool.
If you run partnerships, sponsorship sales, or business development, you sell attention for a living. And right now attention is being mispriced, because neither side of the table has good market data. A real example from the Women’s Sports Index, which we built with Deep Blue Sports + Entertainment on MondoTrends infrastructure: celebrity sightings and walkout content in women’s sports produce a 3.3x engagement lift - about 405K engagements per post. Rookie arrival moments deliver a 2.0x lift and 1.7M views per post.
Those aren’t content trivia. Those are pricing signals. A sponsorship activation window opens the moment a rookie arrives, and the property that can show a brand that data in real time sells the moment for what it’s worth. The one that can’t leaves money on the table. That’s what commercial opportunity mapping in MondoTrends is for - and it’s why we’re also building partner-branded indices like the Women’s Sports Index and custom Trend Snapshots for executive, content, sales, and strategy teams.
Financial markets have tickers and indices so buyers and sellers can agree on value. The attention market - which is where sports and entertainment increasingly make their money - has been running on gut feel. That’s the gap this closes.
Already in the market
The Arizona Cardinals, the UFL, the LA Chargers, Underdog, and LOVB are already using MondoTrends. Surf Melendez at the Cardinals put it in terms of momentum - not just seeing what performed after the fact, but understanding what’s gaining steam and where they stack up in the broader sports market. And Brendan Kaminsky at bknown, who built his agency workflows around CrowdTangle for years, told us he’d been waiting for something to fill the void and couldn’t find it anywhere.
That’s the reaction we built for. Not “interesting tool” - relief.
